Ann Welker

A native of the East End, Ann has spent her life on, or in, the waters of Southampton Town. Protection and preservation of the water quality of our bays , ponds and ocean are the preeminent priority for Ann and what led her to serve on the Southampton Town Board of Trustees. In 2017, Ms. Welker became the first woman elected trustee in Southampton Town since that body was formed in 1686. Trustees each represent certain parts of town; Ms. Welker’s region covers much of the eastern part of the township, including Water Mill, Bridgehampton, Noyac, Sag Harbor, and Sagaponack.

Ann participates in the community oyster gardener program at the Southampton Town Facility at Tiana Bayside in Hampton Bays. This program is a partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension’s Marine Division, and empowers members of the public to raise oysters from seed, helping to increase the wild population of these water filtering bivalves. Ann also volunteers with the Peconic Estuary Partnership and Seatuck Environmental in the Long Island Volunteer River Herring Survey, a citizen science project where volunteers monitor runs of river herring, also known as alewives, as they migrate and spawn in streams throughout Southampton Town.
